Light Scatter oil content monitors estimate oil content based on the amount of light that gets scattered in an OCM sample stream. It cannot discriminate between oil and other particles.

Fluorescence Oil Content Monitors detect only oil molecules based on the unique wavelength signatures when the molecules are irradiated with UV light. The TD-107 Fluorescence Oil Content Monitor ignores all other particles other than oil.
